What HTML formatting can we use on deviantART? And what is the format for these codes?

The following is a list of text formatting codes which are available to you, where they may be used, and how to use them.

All tags must have an opening and a closing tag and must be used for your formatting to work correctly.

You need to start your sentence with an opening tag <> and when you wish to end your specified formatting style you need to end it with the closing tag </>. Anything between these tags will be displayed in the specified style.

The following can be used on userpages, forums, notes, journals and comments.

Bold Text

The opening tag for bold is , and the closing tag is . You may also use , as the opening tag and as the closing tag. If you do not use the closing tag, then all text will be displayed in bold.

Underlined Text

The opening tag for underline is , and the closing tag is . If you do not use the closing tag, then all text will be displayed underlined.

Italic Text

Otherwise known as emphasis requires the opening tag for , and the closing tag is . You may also use , as the opening tag and as the closing tag. If you do not use the closing tag, then alltext will be displayed in Italics.

Subscript Text

The opening tag for subscript is , and the closing tag is . If you do not use the closing tag, then all text will be displayed in subscript.

Superscript Text

The opening tag for superscript is , and the closing tag is . If you do not use the closing tag, then all text will be displayed in superscript.

BlockQuote

These are used where you want to indent a piece of text, usually a quote, within other text. You use:
My indented text
.

Combining Codes

You can combine text formatting codes, for instance if you wanted Bold text being underlined then you just use the two formatting tags for this style ie. and to stop the style .

Acronym

You can also add popup descriptions with a dotted underline to your text (or links) by using the tag, and close using the tag, the format for this is the following. link description

So the following command;

deviantART FAQ would result in the link, deviantART FAQ

Strike Text

The opening tag for strike is <strike>, and the closing tag is </strike>. If you do not use the closing tag, then all text will be displayed striked out.

The next formatting tags can only be used in journals only

Center Text

The opening tag for centering is
, and the closing tag is
. If you do not use the closing tag, then all text after the opening tag will be displayed centered.

Inserting images into journals.

For information on how to include images in your journal, please have a look at FAQ #66.

Ordered listings

To make ordered lists you will need to do the following code
which must be ended with the format
, between these two codes you will need to enter
which must be ended withthe format
.

Example

1.) Entry one

2.) Entry two

3.) Entry three

Example
 1. 1.) Entry one
 2. 2.) Entry two
 3. 3.) Entry three
The
code must be used for each new numbered entry that you wish to be created.

Un-Ordered listsings

There is also the plain list format, by using
and
to end it as opposed to
and
. Just like with ordered lists each entry must be surrounded with

Example
 • Entry one
 • Entry two
 • Entry three
