Can I advertise on deviantART without purchasing an official advertising package?

Users are not allowed to use their deviantART account directly for any sort of for-profit third party advertising whatsoever.

Users who attempt to install click-through links, banners, promotional materials or third party advertising of any sort in their Journal, userpage, signature or any other customizable area of the site will be subjected to immediate administrative action when their actions come to the attention of the deviantART staff.

All advertising efforts must be directed through proper channels and attempts to exploit the site directly for personal gain will not be tolerated.
