What is a Wallpaper and what should I know about using and making wallapers?
The terms Wallpaper and Desktop Picture refer to an image (usually in JPG, PNG or BMP file format) or repeating pattern used as a background on a computer screen, usually for the desktop of a Graphical User Interface (GUI).
'Wallpaper' is the term used in Microsoft Windows, while the Mac OS calls it a 'desktop background'.
Wallpapers can be used on any operating system that supports custom desktop backgrounds since all of them support the same standard screen resolutions.
Wallpapers on deviantART consist of art spanning virtually all mediums, but all share the common denominator of having standardized dimensions, meant to fit the specific resolution of a computer monitor.
And for even more information on this subject, including a secondary list of common resolutions, please read the article: The Wallpaper Guide.

What is a Wallpaper Pack?
A Wallpaper Pack is a usually a RAR or ZIP archive file containing multiple Wallpapers. Generally this means to include variations of color or theme of the same wallpaper, but more commonly a Pack will have several different resolutions to accommodate various monitors specifications. Such Wallpaper Packs will usually be downloadable via the deviation's Download File feature, however they may also be linked to off-site for download.
