What are the guidelines for Volunteer Gallery Moderators?

The guidelines for the Volunteer Gallery Moderators are as follows:

Overview

As a volunteer of the Community Relations Team, you have some cool privileges within the site that you can utilize if you so choose. Here are some of the areas you can feel free to get involved with:

  • Post Daily Deviations
  • Hold Contests with prizes provided by the Director of Community Relations
  • Post News Items
  • Be a community voice
  • Move misplaced deviations
  • Unlimited invitations for Film Volunteers

Guidelines for Posting Daily Deviations

As a Volunteer Gallery Moderator, you have the tools to post Daily Deviations!

The Daily Deviation is a daily feature chosen from the various galleries here on deviantART.

An assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff and volunteers who wish to showcase an image, which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the entire community!

However, there is always a down side to something so cool. As daily deviations are so prominent on the site, the community can sometimes become upset in certain cases. Seeing how we have been around a while, we can help you avoid these unpleasant situations, just keep the following in mind:

  • Avoid giving daily deviations to an artist who has had one in the last 3 months. Constant featuring of the same artists tends to lead to negative commentary from the community and we are sure you do not intend to lynch the artist you like!
  • Daily deviations are all over the place in v6 because of our new awesome footer and with that comes a lot of criticism from the community. Quality over quantity is sure to go over well
  • We all have friends on the site and value their opinions. However, if the community feels all of your picks come from the same people, they can feel ignored. Expand your horizons and try taking suggestions from all sorts of people, you may even make a new friend in the process!
  • We all have our strengths, so stick to what you know! If you are a digital art junkie that should be what you are featuring. Do not venture into areas you are not familiar with
  • Don’t offer daily deviations as contest prizes – they are features that are not ‘winnable’
  • The community appreciates reading the description on daily deviations to get an idea as to why you’ve selected it. Taking the extra time is always worth it

Guidelines for Holding Contests

Anyone on deviantART can hold a contest. You can do so too if you have time and an idea. If you chose to run a contest the Director of Community Relations will assist you in the promotion of the contest as well as providing the prizes.

Post News Items

Anyone on deviantART can post news articles. If you have time and feel that you have some information that you'd like to share with the community regarding galleries, art features, contests etc., then you have the tools available to post such items via our news system. You may even be able to get some specially designed graphics for your articles should you wish to post a regular series of articles, for example. You can get more information from the Director of Community Relations, who will have up to date information on this process.

Be a Community Voice!

During your time as a volunteer, some of the members of our community may come to you with suggestions for the site. Feel free to pass these on to the Director of Community Relations.

You might also find that something on the site isn’t operating as it should or you might think of a suggestion that would improve the functionality of the site. Feel free to pass on those suggestions as well. We have a forum set up for Community Relations and areas for suggestions, bug reports etc. We also have a chat room on dAMN at #CommunityRelations, where we hang out with the community and other members of the Volunteer teams and staff.

Relocating images (miscats)

As a volunteer of the Community Relations team, you will have a tool enabled that will allow you to move images that are not in the right category within the galleries. You do not have to use this tool, however, if you choose to do so, that’s fine too. We will provide you with the information and a tutorial to help you use the tool correctly should you choose to get involved in this process.

Unlimited Invitations for Film Volunteers

As a Volunteer Gallery Moderator for the film galleries, you have unlimited invitations that you can use to invite people to submit film on deviantART. You can hand out as many or as few as you like, to whomever you like.
